Evolving long before bees and other flying pollinators, primitive ferns tend to reproduce from spores on the frond undersides, or bulbils along the stem. Raising from spores is a slow process and although micropropagation has sped it up, this can change their appearance. So it’s best to buy traditionally-raised plants from a specialist nursery such as Fibrex.
