5. GO FOR SOLID CONSTRUCTION

Garden Answers (UK) - - Wildlife -

A wooden box should be made of good, thick timber to give a stable temperature inside. The joints should be tight so there’s no draught, and it should have drainage holes in the bottom. A metal protection plate around the hole isn’t essential, but will stop woodpeckers drilling into it to get at the young.
