4. FORGET THE FRILLS

Boxes should never have an entrance perch below the hole – it’s an open invitation for larger predatory birds, such as magpies or crows, to investigate. And don’t buy a combined bird table and box; any bird trying to set up home will be plagued by all the comings and goings outside its front door.
