TOMATO ‘CRIMSON BLUSH’

-

What is it? ‘Crimson Blush’ is a blightresistant beefsteak tomato following on the heels of medium-fruited ‘Crimson Crush’. It allows you to grow large beefsteak fruit outside without the risk of losing entire plants to blight. How should I grow it? These are for outdoor cultivation so resist the temptation to sow too early; mid-March onwards is fine. Use a propagator or airing cupboard for initial heat, then grow on in a warm, light spot, taking care to keep plants frost free. What ongoing care does it need? Pot on plants as they grow before gradually hardening off and planting out after all risk of frost has passed (late May/June). Plant against a strong cane for support and grow as a cordon (indeterminate), pinching out sideshoots as they grow. When are they ready? Pick when the large pink fruits develop a darker crimson blush. Where can I buy them? Suttons sells them £3.99 for 10 seeds 0844 326 2200; www.suttons.co.uk
