Q Why are some camellia leaves discoloured?

- TONY GLOVER, BY EMAIL

AAn eastfacing spot is not the best for camellias – when buds become frosted the early morning sun can damage the flowers. However, this leaf discolouration is probably caused by a watering problem or a lack of nutrients. Make sure the soil is moist but never waterlogged and apply a feed rich in trace elements, such as seaweed fertiliser, in spring. Also bear in mind these could just be dying older leaves.
