Q What strange furry fruits are growing among my pears?

APears are grafted onto quince rootstocks and it looks as though your tree has produced shoots from the rootstock that have grown up through the pear and are now flowering and producing fruit! Although quinces are edible, chances are those from a rootstock won’t be all that nice. Have a taste by all means, but it would be best to saw off these stems at their base.
