12 AQUILEGIAS FOR JUST £1.25 PER PLANT
Granny’s bonnets are quintessential cottage garden flowers. This pretty collection offers months of colour
Aquilegias are essential plants for the cottage garden look. Flowering all the way through spring and summer, their frilly double blooms nod in the breeze above layered petticoats of clump-forming, lacy grey-green foliage, to the delight of local pollinators. Also known as granny’s bonnets, they may look delicate, but are actually very tough, easy-to-grow plants.
They cope well with almost any soil conditions in sun or part shade and are both rabbit- and slug-resistant.
This month Hayloft is offering Garden Answers readers a choice of two aquilegia collections – either six or 12 plants.
The featured cultivars are:
l ‘Barlow Pink’ (main pic)
l ‘Barlow Black’
l ‘Barlow White’
l ‘Bordeaux Barlow’
l ‘Christa Barlow’
l ‘Nora Barlow’
H90cm (3ft) S45cm (18in). All aquilegias will be supplied bareroot, labelled, in March.
