Rosy future for ‘Captain Tom’

-

The UK’s favourite fundraising war veteran, Captain Sir Tom Moore, has joined the likes of Alan Titchmarsh and Dame Judi Dench, by having a rose named after him.

The epoymus bloom is a vibrant, velvety red hybrid tea rose with a robust disposition (H90cm/3ft, S60cm/2ft). Plants are available to buy in pots from £15.99, from Harkness Roses; for every rose sold, £2.50 will be donated to The Captain Tom Foundation.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, Captain Tom hoped to walk 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden before his 100th birthday, with the goal of raising £1,000 for the NHS Covid appeal. What happened next made history: by his 100th birthday, the centenarian had inspired the nation and raised £38.9 million in the process! l To buy your own ‘Captain Tom’ rose call 01462 420402 or visit www.roses.co.uk.
