Refresh containers

Check over planters, tubs, window boxes and hanging baskets. Pick off dead or damaged leaves and flowers.

✿ Move any pot-bound trees and shrubs into bigger containers the next size up, using John Innes No3 compost.

✿ If the tree or shrub doesn’t need repotting yet, just scrape away around 2.5cm (1in) of compost from the top and replace with fresh compost.

✿ After repotting or topping up the compost, add a few pellets of controlled-release fertiliser.
