Q Can potted pine trees be pruned?

ATrue pines (pinus species) can be cut back in spring, but it’s best to avoid pruning into old leafless branches. This is true for all conifers (except yew). To reduce the size of a pine tree, cut back unwanted growth to where the branch divides and you can see a cluster of other branches. Avoid cutting back to bare stumps because these may not regrow.
