Pole­mo­nium caeruleum

Deep blue, bell-shaped flow­ers with or­ange sta­mens ap­pear in June. Its leaf ar­range­ment gives rise to the name Ja­cob’s lad­der. H: 80cm (2¾ft), S: 30cm (1ft).

An­thriscus sylvestris ‘Ravenswing’

This cow pars­ley has pur­ple-black stems and fo­liage with a froth of airy white flow­ers. H: 1m (3¼ft), S: 30cm (1ft).

Gera­nium ‘Ann Folkard’

This cranes­bill pro­duces a mass of black­eyed and veined ma­genta flow­ers from June to the frosts. Has light green fo­liage. H: 60cm (2ft), S: 1m (3¼ft).

Pen­ste­mon het­ero­phyl­lus ‘ True Blue’

Bees and but­ter­flies love the bright blue, pink-blushed trum­pets that ap­pear from June-Au­gust. H: 60cm (2ft), S: 45cm (1½ft).

Clema­tis ‘Gil­lian Blades’

Flow­er­ing twice in a sea­son, this large­flow­ered clema­tis has white, star-shaped flow­ers tinged with palest blue. H: 2.5m (8ft), S: 1m (3¼ft).

Sam­bu­cus ni­gra ‘Eva’

Tiny clus­ters of pale pink flow­ers emerge be­tween the black, lacy fo­liage from MayJune. Ma­roon berries fol­low. Cut right back in au­tumn. H: 3m (10ft), S: 2m (6½ft).
