3 PICK A HERB BOUQUET
A great way to get the children involved in a barbecue is to take them on a walk around the garden to find some herbs to help flavour the feast that’s to follow. Get them to rub the leaves and smell them as you find them. Under supervision, especially for small children, let them have a go at snipping off the leaves with garden snips. Then take the harvest back to the kitchen and explain what each leaf is for, so they can chop some chives for a potato salad, use mint and basil leaves to decorate a salad, and use thyme and rosemary to flavour meat.
Herbs are great to teach children about both gardening and cooking
