Soak­ing the dry seeds in a jar of tepid wa­ter for 24 hours prior can soft­ens the hard coat and helps to speed up ger­mi­na­tion.

Al­ter­na­tively, care­fully chip away a small piece of the hard seed coat with a sharp knife to al­low mois­ture into the seed.

Sow sev­eral seeds per pot of com­post, spac­ing them evenly and cover them over with around 1.5cm (¾in) of com­post.

Wa­ter the pot to soak the com­post and then stand them in gen­tle heat. Don’t wa­ter again un­til the seedlings start to emerge.
