Embarking on the big tidy-up
Well the first frosts have hit with a vengeance and while the days have (mostly) been bright and sunny, the cold nights mean a change in the garden. There are still dahlias and chrysanths in flower, but mainly I’ve been engaging in Operation Tidy-Up. I suspect, however, that I’m not alone in starting one job and suddenly seeing at least two more that need doing more urgently! If you fancy an interesting project, our feature on growing a family tree of apples (page 20) could be just the thing. Essentially different varieties of apple on the same tree, it’s a centuries-old technique and one that’s well worth trying. Have a great (if cold!) gardening week.
