Protect trees from rabbits

-

If you live in an area where rabbits are a problem in your garden or allotment, it’s well worth protecting any newly planted trees before they’re damaged. Rabbits love to nibble the bark, especially during the winter when other food is less available. If they chew around the trunk, the sap flow is cut off and the tree will die. Some chicken wire wrapped around the trunk to a height of around 60cm (2ft) to prevent them chewing is all that’s needed, or simply apply a spiral tree guard that expands as the trunk thickens.
