African marigold ‘Mission Giant’

Garden News (UK) - - About Now -

Here’s an African marigold that thinks it’s a chrysanthemum! Its yellow blooms could easily be confused with those of a pot ‘mum, but this is a marigold with a difference, as its flowers can reach a width of 7.5cm (3in) – much bigger than most African types. It has another trick up its sleeve: the green eyes of its flowers are tightly compact, so rain water sits on top, rather than soaking into the flower and rotting it – a real bonus if we have a soggy summer! ‘Mission Giant’ is great for growing in borders or for cut flowers, and blooms from mid-June until late September. Price: £2.99 for 20 seeds; www.sut or 0844 326 2200.
