Plant more garlic now
Garlic planted in autumn needs an eye kept on it – birds can dig up bulbs, wind or frost can rock plant stems and heavy rain can saturate and encourage rot if the soil isn’t draining enough. If all isn’t well with your crop, there’s plenty of time to plant some more now. And you may just want to get another variety going anyway. Plant cloves in a well-improved, free-draining, sunny spot with their tips below the soil surface, or plant one clove per module or pot and grow on in a cold frame before planting out later.
