How to grow fabulous foxgloves

Sow now to aim for plants that flower this year!

It’s lovely at this time of year to dream about tall spires of foxgloves, full of buzzing bees in the garden.

Well, it’ll be summer before you know it and big, beautiful blooms will soon be here!

Many foxgloves are well known to be biennial, meaning they usually use their first year of growing to establish foliage, stems and strong roots, before lying dormant in winter. Then they re-emerge strong the following year for flowering. You can start them off as usual from March by seed for expected flowers in 2020, but if started off earlier now, it’s possible you could see them flourish this first summer. Here are some pointers to get these glorious summer staples going this winter…
