LETTUCE ‘OUTREDGEOUS’

-

Suttons says its exclusive new lettuce was the “first plant to be grown from seed, harvested and eaten in space”. NASA wanted to supplement astronauts’ diets with fresh produce, and crops of ‘OutREDgeous’ were successfully grown on the International Space Station. The good news for those of us on planet Earth is that this lettuce is a top performer even when it isn’t in orbit – thriving in low light conditions; perfect if you don’t have the luxury of a south-facing plot. The attractive red romaine variety has a sweet flavour and crunch when eaten, making it ideal for livening-up salads. Sow from March to July for crops between June and October. Price: £2.99 for 200 seeds. Call 0844 326 2200 or visit www.suttons.co.uk.
