How to sow

-

Once you have established foxglove plants, you can let them selfseed freely. To grow some new, specific varieties start off sowing indoors yourself. 1 Use pots or seed trays, either with or without modules. Fill up with good quality, proprietary seed compost, firm down and level off to the top. 2 Sow very lightly over the surface, as the seed is extremely fine. Ideally, your young seedlings won’t touch each other, so ensure sparse sowing. 3 Don’t cover the seed much once sown as foxgloves need good light for germination. At best a very light sieved covering of compost or a thin layer of Vermiculite will do. 4 Water in overhead with a very fine rose watering can or a spray mister to keep the compost just moist – but it shouldn’t ever become sodden. 5 Keep your tray of plants in a warm greenhouse at around 15-18C (59-64F) and prick out individually when large enough. Plant out when at plug size where they are to flower.
