CUT DOWN ASPARAGUS

-

If you haven’t cut down your asparagus yet, now’s the time to do it. The tall, ferny stems will have turned yellow and may already have started to collapse, which tells us the plants are now dormant for winter. Simply cut back the stems to ground level with shears or secateurs and clear all the waste away from the bed. While you’re at it, remove any late weeds by hand to leave a weed-free clear asparagus bed over winter. The chopped down stems can be cut into smaller pieces or shredded and mixed into the compost heap.
