CUT DOWN HERBACEOUS PEONIES

-

It’s likely the foliage of your herbaceous peony is now dying off so give it a good tidy up. You’ll probably have trimmed down a great many of your perennials already, leaving a few strong-stemmed ones to add a little structure to the garden, but peony foliage seems to last longer, leaving a little bushiness to your borders in the late season. Cutting it down now can be part of your winter tidy up to get everything ready for next year – it’s beneficial to the plant to cut it now though, as it may reduce the chance of peony wilt, a fungal infection, getting into its stems and leaves and causing mould, brown patches and unopening buds next spring.
