Check dahlia tubers aren’t too dry
If you lift your dahlia tubers from the garden in November to store over winter, it’s worth checking them occasionally over the winter months. Ideally, they need to be kept in frost-free conditions but not too warm, as this can dry out and dehydrate the tubers. Check over the roots to make sure the fleshy tubers are firm and plump. Any dried small roots or damaged parts can be trimmed back with secateurs. If you’re concerned the tubers are shrivelling, place some damp compost around them to help keep the tubers hydrated through until spring when they start into growth.
