TURN YOUR COMPOST HEAP
Compost heaps generate their own heat to aid decomposition, but in winter exposed heaps can grind to a halt if not insulated and tended to a little. Covering your heap with cardboard or a piece of old carpet can keep in the heat, and occasionally get out in the garden and turn it with a fork – this gets air nicely into the heap, which helps the heating and decomposing process. Organisms inside will be warmed up and will get to work breaking your heap down for you!
