TOP TIPS
1 Use sharp secateurs and cut back all growth to just a couple of buds from where it grew from the main rods.
2 After a few years of winter pruning, short spurs will develop along the rods. If crowded, you can thin them.
3 Check ties to make sure rods are secured to wires. Renew string or use a tougher rubber tie that expands.
4 Use a knife to scrape off flaky, peeling bark from the main rods, but don’t cut into the new bark below.
