Break the ice

Break the ice on bird baths in the morning and fill with fresh water. Birds still need to drink and bathe in cold weather.

Site feeders well

Make sure your bird feeders are within reach of shrubs and greenery – birds need a quick getaway if any hungry predators are out and about.

Sow primulas in pots now

Get cowslips, oxslips and primroses going now by sowing them in pots and leaving them outside.

Finish pruning

As birds start to build their nests from February, make sure you get your winter pruning largely done by the end of January.
