If you prefer something more exciting than all-year-round foliage for your hedge, then a flowering rose could be just the thing. ‘Fru Dagmar Hastrup’ has a very long season of pink flowers overlapping with the masses of rich red hips. It’s tough and adaptable, too.
Also try Viburnum tinus Spirit (‘Anvi’) makes a fine, long-season, winterflowering, evergreen hedge with black berries to follow.
