SOW LARGE ONIONS
If you fancy growing large onions, now’s the time to think about sowing seed. To get big ones the plants need a long growing season; traditionally many exhibitors of onions sowed seed on Boxing Day! Sow seeds of a suitable variety thinly in pots or trays of compost and lightly cover with sieved compost or Vermiculite. Water the compost gently and place in a propagator at a temperature of 15C (60F). Seedlings should appear in two weeks and when pricked out, grow on in a light position with frost protection.
