FOUR MORE TREES TO PRUNE IN WINTER
Dogwood
Every two or three years, cut back to the ground in late winter to encourage fresh growth and vibrant colours.
Apples and pears
Remove any dead, diseased or crossing branches, then reduce remaining branches by a third.
Wisteria
Prune in January or February, cutting back to two or three buds to tidy up plants before the growing season starts.
Deciduous berberis
If needed, prune in winter by cutting alternate stems down to the base, or chopping back completely to the ground.
