PRUNE YOUR GOOSEBERRIES
To maximise cropping potential, prune now, especially those grown in containers. Gooseberry stems can be a bit droopy, so pruning keeps stems short and upright. Any stems growing out horizontally should be pruned to an upward-growing sideshoot. Any that grow upwards can be pruned to an outward-facing bud.
Berries grow from spurs on the old wood and at the base of the previous year’s sideshoots, so leave that wood intact.
