PROTECT FISH FROM FROST
In winter, gasses created by decomposing organic ma er in the pond can build up when the surface of the water is frozen. You can prevent this by keeping a small area of the water surface thawed, which will also help oxygenate the water. Float a ball or piece of expanded polystyrene on the surface, removing it on frosty mornings. Or place a washing up bowl on the water and pour hot water into this when the water is frozen, removing it at midday when it has thawed a hole. Banging on the ice to break it can harm fish.
