GROW EARLY SALADS IN THE GREENHOUSE

-

Salad leaves are expensive in January so it makes sense to grow your own. Take advantage of a frost-free greenhouse to produce winter salads. Sow winter lettuce varieties such as ‘All Year Round’ or baby spinach. Sow seed thinly into good quality seed compost. Keep just moist but not wet until germination. Thin out or transplant into individual pots or cell trays. If you only have a small space available try sowing a tray of micro leaves such as baby basil or coriander. They’re sown thickly and harvested with scissors at the seedling stage.
