If you’ve heavy clay soil just add some grit and gravel and don’t worry about trying things – you’ll be surprised what will grow, even plants that apparently don’t like clay.

If something isn’t happy or doesn’t fit, don’t be afraid to move it. It will find its place somewhere!

We create our own compost and give the beds a good feed once a year, in spring. As it’s a big garden I supplement our own compost with blood, fish and bone mix.

Don’t have too much exposed soil – the more the plants cover it, the less chance there is for weeds to grow!
