Smarten up houseplants by slipping the original plastic pot inside a decorative outer container – those made from woven jute, seagrass and sisal are bang on trend. Make sure it’s slightly wider and deeper than the nursery pot, and doesn’t have drainage holes in the base.

Houseplants with lax or trailing stems look great in hanging pots and wall-mounted containers. Metal ones will deliver a contemporary touch, while macramé plant hangers will
