PLANT LILY BULBS

-

Lilies always look spectacular in the garden and they’re perfect container plants. Plant the bulbs now and you can look forward to their colour and scent in summer. Use a deep container and half fill with a soil-based compost. Place the bulbs on the compost spacing them 5cm (2in) apart. Top with compost to bury the bulbs to a depth that’s around the same height as the bulb. If you’re planting lime-hating lilies, such as and use an ericaceous compost and, because these lilies root from the stem, bury them deeper, to a depth of twice their height. If you want an early display, keep the container somewhere warm to force the bulbs to bloom indoors, usually within six weeks or so.
