GIVE FRUIT TREES AND BUSHES A POTASH FEED

-

Fruit trees, especially dessert apple trees, really benefit from a potash feed in late winter every three years. They need potassium for producing fruit, and as we remove fallen apples and leaves we take away the tree’s natural food source. So to give the new shoots emerging in spring a boost, apply 25g per sq m (¾oz per sq yd) of sulphate of potash or organic potassium in late winter or early spring when the soil is moist, sprinkling the fertiliser over the root zone.
