LINGONBERRIES
If rhododendrons and skimmias flourish in your garden then you have the acid soil that lingonberries need. If you don’t, they can be grown in pots of ericaceous compost. This fruit bears a resemblance to another acid-lover, the cranberry, with a similar lowgrowing habit and deep red fruits, which are slightly sweeter than cranberries although still very sour. Perhaps it comes as no surprise though to hear that they’re very healthy and rich in antioxidants! Happy in sun or semi-shade, these plants thrive in sandy, free-draining soil, are easy to grow and disease-resistant, with fruits starting to ripen in July. A creeping plant, it grows to around 20cm (8in) tall.
