Using small space well

-

Replacing a shrub with a tree can liberate a surprising amount of planting space, and this brings exciting new design opportunities. The tree and tall roses at each end will make the most of the li le sunlight there is, while at a low level I’m replanting snowdrops, ferns, wood anemones and ivy. Over winter I’ve been growing on cyclamen and

‘Pompone e’, which will provide a splash of colour, and the spires of transplanted foxgloves will erupt in spring. I also have some and

both of which I love, and hopefully the refreshed soil will now hold enough moisture for them to thrive.
