Will an old ivy reattach itself to a wall?

Stefan says: You’re obviously among the gardeners who appreciate ivy for its wildlife benefits and, as yours has been growing against a sound, modern wall for 30 years, it would be unlikely to cause much damage. However, you tell me it has now pulled away from the wall and you’ve tried to reattach it with a wooden frame but wonder if it will regrow.

I confess I’ve never tried to refix an old ivy and have my doubts if it will oblige. I suggest you wait and see, but it will certainly still be alive (ivy takes some killing!). If the old suckers don’t attach themselves again, cut it hard back and new, self-clinging shoots will arise very quickly.
