STILL TIME TO SOW ONIONS

-

Onions can be sown from now until late March. To grow big onions you need to sow early and before conditions outside are really suitable. Get an early start by sowing them in a greenhouse or polytunnel now. Because seedlings are delicate I sow them in cell trays and plant these out in late March or April. Fill cells trays with fresh compost and soak this before sowing. Then sow three or four seeds in each cell and cover with a li le compost. High temperatures aren’t needed – anything above 15C (60F) is fine. Once large enough to handle, thin to one seedling per cell.
