GROW YOUR BEST STRAWBERRIES
It’s a good idea to give plants a helping hand, especially if you have a strawberry bed. Plants will benefit from a cloche protection over them and will leaf up earlier than their unprotected neighbours. When using cloches, don’t forget you still need to keep air flowing to prevent fungal problems, so use cloches without ends or ones with vents. Strawberry crowns can still be planted if you can get hold of them. ‘Pegasus’ is a favourite for the flavour and sheer amount of fruit produced and is perfect for jam, while ‘Delizz’ is a delicious day-neutral variety, which will fruit until the first frosts, giving a continuing crop rather than everything within a few weeks.
