Monty and Diarmuid team up for plants
UK gardening celebrities Monty Don and Diarmuid Gavin are to help promote the International Year of Plant Health. The global initiative, launched by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in 2020, has been extended into 2021 due to disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Monty has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador, and Diarmuid a Champion for the initiative.
“I look forward to playing a small part in promoting the vital role of plant health as a key factor in the fight against hunger and poverty,” said Monty, while Diarmuid added he “looked forward to promoting this vitally important issue”.
The aim of the initiative is to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty and protect the environment, as well as helping to boost economic development.
