STEP BY STEP
Because a fruit tree will live for many years, the soil must be well prepared. Dig in plenty of well-ro ed manure and grit if the soil is heavy.
When bare-root trees arrive take care to keep the roots moist. Plant as soon as possible. Trim damaged roots and place in the hole.
Keep the graft – seen as a bend in the stem – above soil level. Work soil around roots by shaking the tree. Add more soil and firm in.
Stake the tree, using a tree tie to hold the tree against the stake and prevent bark damage. Water well to se le soil around roots.
