Pulmonarias can be divided as soon as the flowers fade. Gently lift the plant by loosening the soil around it with a hand fork or digging fork and gently lift it from the soil. The plants have quite fibrous roots and are quite easy to remove from the soil. You should be able to pull the plant into smaller sections by gently pulling the roots away with your hands. Replant them immediately and water well.
