Time to sort onions and peppers
After an hour of digging, it’s time for a coffee from my flask and a trip into the greenhouse to transplant onion seedlings. These have grown well this year and I’ve sufficient for my needs and to share with fellow allotment holders. It’s also a chance to get the slowcoach vegetable, the sweet pepper, under way. I’m growing a variety called ‘Yellow Bell’, which has large yellow fruits, plus some seeds I saved from a bell pepper purchased from a supermarket in my hour of need! Both are sowed in a 7.5cm (3in) pot of good compost and popped into my airing cupboard for a few days to spark the seed into germination.
