Protect early bulbs from frost

-

We’re having a typical stop-start early spring with fine, cold spells followed by warmth and wet that encourages our plants into growth. Though snowdrops and early daffodils can cope with this freeze-thaw, see-sawing of conditions, other bulbs and spring flowers can be ruined. Early iris and crocus benefit from a protective cover on extra cold nights. The foliage of other bulbs on the edge of hardiness, including agapanthus and tulbaghias, is easily damaged by extremely sharp frosts, and these can be protected with cloches, which will prevent a setback due to leaf damage.
