TOP TIPS FOR PARSNIPS
I’m starting some of my parsnip seeds off as they take a long season to grow. I’ll also start some in a few months when I have more space after removing the final winter crops. No ma er when you’re sowing, it’s best to place seed on a piece of damp kitchen paper sealed in a ziplock bag. This allows you to see which seeds have germinated, as parsnips are notoriously fussy and difficult to start off. Buy fresh seed each year and leave the bag somewhere warm. Once seeds show a small tail, they’re ready to be planted out in their final growing position. Don’t let the tail grow too long as you risk damaging it as you plant them out.
