DIVIDE SNOWDROPS

-

Snowdrops tend to push their bulbs to the surface, where they get spread around. But this is haphazard and many bulbs will be lost. As soon as you see bulbs near the soil surface they need attention. If you want to make new clumps around the garden or increase special snowdrops you have, they’re easy to divide. The best time is after flowering, when the leaves start to yellow, but that can be a busy time in the garden, so they’ll tolerate moving now, as long as you don’t let them dry out. Split clumps and replant two or three bulbs together, about 5cm (2in) deep, and 10cm (4in) apart to quickly make new clumps.
