Top up your pots
Now’s the perfect moment to give containers a health check. Soil levels drop with time so pack more compost into the base of sunken specimen containers and round the roots – they’ll grow and look be er for it. Have a bit of a poke around the rootball, too. Healthy plants need good roots and spo ing and sorting out slug eggs or a vine weevil infestation at this point can make all the difference to the display a couple of months hence.
Mixing in a handful of organic slow-release fertiliser isn’t a bad idea, either!
