SMALL WAYS TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

-

Leave leftovers

You can feed birds for free! Leave out leftover grated cheese, oats, cooked rice and bruised fruit, which go down well.

Order dahlias

Single-flowered, open dahlias, where you can see the central pollen disc, are great for bees. Try varieties such as ‘Bright Eyes’.

Don’t get rid of moss

If you’re raking out moss from paths and lawns, leave it within reach of bird feeders. Birds may take it to line their new nests with.

Leave dandelions

Leave at least some of your lawn dandelions alone – these provide excellent early food for butterflies and bees.
